Project mission

Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for all life forms. Orthophosphate is the only form of Phosphorus that autotrophs can assimilate. Eutrophication is the over-enrichment of receiving waters with mineral nutrients; the result is the excessive production of autotroph, especially algae and cyanobacteria leading to hypoxia or anoxia in waters. 

The POWER project aims to develop a useful system to recover phosphorous from the animal slurry by anaerobic digestion pre-treatment, with the double goals to reduce soil and water P-pollution and to recovery organic-mineral fertilizer and struvite.
