Project mission

The agricultural sector has embarked in the challenge of promoting sustainable agriculture, able to withstand climate change.

Biostimulants are fully part of this strategy and they are a key too to ensure an integrated approach, not only to nutrient supply, but also to all agricultural inputs. Furthermore, biostimulants’ market is steadily growing, with a current value of 3B USD and a projected one of 5 B USD by 2025.

The Digestimulus project aims at developing a production process for a biostimulant-like product to improve crop production. This will be achieved by colonizing and incubating the solid fraction of agricultural biogas digestate with selected microorganisms. Such microorganisms will be chosen among those known to be not only safe, but also able to promote healthy plant growth.

The goal is to innovate both in terms of products and in terms of technology, which, as integral part of the agricultural sector, will contribute to its profitability and sustainability, starting from Lombardy.
