Project mission

SmartFeed aims to validate a model based on the valorisation of the organic fraction of urban waste for feed production based on insects and algal biomass. SmartFeed evaluates the biological value of the feed produced with insects and algae for poultry farming in the short-chain and quantifies the energy deriving from anaerobic digestion to support the entire production process. The digestate obtained is used as a fertiliser, replacing chemicals through precision farming methods, closing the waste loop.

International winter school

Online, February 15th, 23rd and 24th 2022
Initiated by the SMART FEED project – Sustainable Model for Agroenergy and Feed production by Urban Waste Recycling and Treatment – the INTERNATIONAL WINTER SCHOOL is granted by Cariplo Foundation and will take place online on February 15th, 23rd and 24th 2022. The school will provide academic lectures and success stories from the business world and will explore one of the core themes of the circular economy: the recovery of municipal solid waste to produce high added-value products, such as protein sources from insects and microalgae for sustainable feed.
